Hunter Reed Grant

We are excited to (Finally) welcome Hunter Reed Grant to our family.  Isn't he adorable?!
Date: Thursday, September 6, 2012
Time: 9:15 PM
Weight: 7 lbs 8 oz.
Length: 21 Inches

Hunter's Due date was Sept. 3, so I was getting pretty anxious to have him here.  I went to the doctor Thursday morning for a check up.  The doctor asked if I wanted to have the baby Friday, and I said, "how bout today?".  So he sent me to the hospital.  :-)  I was only dilated to a 2.5 (I think he made up the .5 to make me feel better).  He said I could get an epidural and then start the pit. and I would not have to feel the contractions.  Sounded like a plan to me!

Daniel had class until 5, so I had my mom come with me to my appointment and the hospital.  At the hospital, we had to wait until they had a room available.  Luckily I was not in labor, or I would have had to have my baby in "the small room in the back".  Yup - sounds terrifying.  I guess it was a popular weekend to have a baby.

Luckily, they let us go eat lunch while we waited.  By 2:00 they had a room for us.  They checked me in, gave me a beautiful gown to wear, hooked me up to an IV, and took my blood.  Fun, fun!
Eventually they gave me pit. to increase my contractions.  I asked the nurse if I could get the epidural before the pit, and she looked at me like I was crazy.  She could not understand why I would want an epidural before I was in any pain.  Obviously she has never had a baby.  I was planing on getting the epidural, why wait until I was hurting?  I felt like a wimp, so I waited until the contractions started hurting, and I asked for the epidural.

The doctor came and broke my water around 5:30.  I was dilated to a 4 and having steady contractions.

Daniel finally got to the hospital around 6:30.  The nurse checked me around 7 and said I was only a 5.  She said to let her know if I felt any pressure or urge to push.  This made me a little nervous, because I did not feel very much.  What if I did not feel the "pressure".  Finally around 8:30 I thought it was probably time to check.  The nurse said she would check me at 9:00.

I waited till 8:45 then pressed the nurse call button.  I pressed the button 3 different times and she never came!  Finally Daniel went out and got the nurse to come and check me.  When she did she said, "oh, yup, we're having a baby".  They called the Doctor, brought in the baby crew, and 3 contractions a few pushes later Hunter was born.
We are so excited to have him in our family!

Conner was not sure what to think at first.

Conner's Animal Noises

It is so fun to teach Conner new things and see how fast he picks them up.  We have been working on animal noises.  He has a book that teaches animal noises that goes like this:

"A cow says Moo, a sheep says Baa, and three singing pigs say La, La, La.  No, No, you say, that isn't right.  The pig says Oink all day and all night."

So, naturally, Conner thinks that pigs say No, No, No.  :-)  He is adorable.

Here is a video of a few of Conner's animal noises.
Notice he is sitting on the time out bench for part of the video.  It is his favorite little seat at Nana's.  If only he understood the meaning of the chair...
